Hospice America Foundation
The American Hospice Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
Hospice America's mission is to increase access to quality hospice care through public education, professional training and advocacy on behalf of consumers. They state that they will realize their vision, when 'Hospice' is universally understood, valued, and utilized. Their primary goal is to ensure that all Americans know that hospice offers comprehensive care at home with maximum physical, emotional, and spiritual comfort. When physical comfort at home is not possible, inpatient hospice facilities are available.
Bereavement support is offered to the family for more than a year after the death. Hospice America offers innovative programs to serve the needs of terminally ill and grieving individuals of all ages. Some of their major accomplishments include: (1) a national training program designed to help school counselors and teachers address the needs of grieving students and teach about loss and grief in the classroom; (2) corporate training program to help employers and managers support grieving employees; (3) educational campaign with local Area Agencies on Aging to inform seniors about the hospice coverage included in their Medicare benefits; (4) conferences for major health insurance companies interested in improving benefits and services; and (5) practical educational materials used in over 4,000 public and private schools and by more than 2,500 companies.
Their efficiency has been recognized with a 4-star rating (highest awarded) from Charity Navigator, the largest independent charity evaluator in the country. Hospice is a set of services that many people may need at some point in their lives. While death is not an option for any of us, people do have choices about the services they use at the end of their life. Hospice is undoubtedly the best option in the last months of life because it offers a wide variety of benefits, not only to the patient, but also to other family members.
The Foundation is a charitable non-profit corporation as defined in section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Contributions to the foundation may be tax deductible.
