NBCC - National Breast Cancer Coalition

Our mission is to stop breast cancer through grassroots efforts to increase research funding, influence policy, and educate activists.

The National Breast Cancer Coalition Fund (NBCCF) is a grassroots advocacy organization committed to ending breast cancer. We arm women and men with the power to make it happen: to secure a growing national investment on breast cancer research, affect how that money is spent, shape clinical trials, set a national research agenda, and influence public policies that affect breast cancer research and treatment. NBCCF's integrated approach brings together public policy, science, education and advocacy in the fight against breast cancer. NBCCF aims to increase the effectiveness of breast cancer research and the resources available to it, improve access for all women to high-quality health care and clinical trials, and expand the influence of the breast cancer decision making process. We work to accomplish these goals through our advocacy training programs which train trains advocates analyze scientific information and to collaborate with the research community to ensure that materials they produce are based on fact. Each May, NBCCF holds an advocacy training conference in Washington, D.C., where hundreds of breast cancer activists from across the country gather to learn the latest information on breast cancer science, research and public policy. This is the only breast cancer conference in the country that trains advocates to address the many issues surrounding the breast cancer epidemic and sharpens their advocacy skills. In addition, NBCCF has established Project LEAD (Leadership, Education and Advocacy Development). This unique, intensive science course trains breast cancer activists to participate as informed consumers in the medical and scientific decision making processes that impact breast cancer research. NBCCF also carries out a variety of education and outreach programs to ensure that advocates, policymakers, media and the public understand the complex issues surrounding breast cancer research, science and public policy. These include the Clinical Trials Initiative, the Congressional Forum's on Breast Cancer, and grassroots leadership development.

The National Breast Cancer Fund's (NBCCF) education and training programs are designed to give advocates the information, tools and skills they need to be effective advocates for everyone facing breast cancer.

• Project LEAD®, our science course for breast cancer advocates, trains advocates to critically analyze breast cancer research and influence research committees and other breast cancer decision-making bodies.

• The Annual Advocacy Conference teaches participants the latest in breast cancer research, science and public policy, and sharpens their advocacy skills.

• The Team Leader training program prepares grassroots advocates to serve as delegation leaders for NBCC?s Washington Lobby Day on Capitol Hill.

• The International Initiative provides technical support for breast cancer activists all around the world.
